I've been in love with colour ever since I could remember. A fresh box of 64 Crayola crayons was almost too pretty to use, and I would use the boring ones without vibrant hues or catchy names first. Even now I carry a set of pens to mark my life planner with, each person in my family getting their own colour, then extras for work, crafting, and all the rest.
One of the things I anticipation each year is to see what Pantone will release as their "colour of the year". This year was an extra long wait as I was not in love with the Ultra Violet they released in 2018. Then I love finding ways to work it into my life and of course my knitting.
Living Coral is a colour I can get behind - not only because I love the beauty of it and the ties to nature but also because it pairs so well with many of the neutrals that I love using when creating knitted items. The issue I had come up against though when seeking this out in the crafting world was finding a replica colour that came close to what I was seeing online. I went to the standard brands and isles of my local Michaels and Walmart, then also scoured a few local yarn shops as well looking to match the hue as close as I could.
Online I found a few that were close but out of the price range to be able to use in producing items for sale. Landing where I always seem to land over at KnitPicks and I think that they've nailed the colour perfectly with their Swish Worsted in Conch!
Not only is Swish one of my favourites to work with because it has all the properties of wool in a superwash base that makes it easy to care for, but also the colours are truly represented and I've never been disappointed - least of all with this one. So be prepared to see a lot of "living coral" in our Spring/Summer items that will be hitting our new online shop which launches March 21st!
What are you thoughts on Pantone's choice this year?
